Spoken to IEd , the date we can have in July is 17th/18th July . No other dates available as these are prebooked with the FC . You've all nine months to free up this date .We pissed them about for two dates this year , if it become a third then I suggest we will struggle to go back there agian .
I don't think this is a go-er - all the 16th SS (including me) will be down at Beltring the following week and starting from Monday 19th for some as site has to be set up and vehicles transported.

Spoke to Guy - he is getting in touch with IED to see if we can get 10/11th instead...

Just noticed your post on "events" Dave, I assume it's a "go" now?
I still think we should have rebranded it though, as the name will conjure up the same misgivings that some had about the original, cancelled event.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Yes, sorry - my posting from yesterday was lost.
Guy hasn't had word back from IED but is 80% sure it is OK. He suggested posting up the event anyway as even if we don't get IED we can run it elsewhere, in other words make sure we get July as our event before someone else jumps in. I agreed as did Stephen.
Rebranding? Well, it wasn't the event that was the problem as such, it was a combination of moving dates, player unavailability and poor marketing. Well, we won't make the mistake of poor marketing this time - everything will be crystal clear. ![]()

Guy's just confirmed we have the IED site for 10/11 July

Wik-id.
it's the site we did CR at right? Near Wrexham?

Yup, that's the bugger.

Superb. My birthday is July 9th as well, so I can have a weekend in the field to celebrate!

I've been steadily re-populating the new visible (but locked) Jedburgh section. (The old one can't be seen by forum members now).
Anyhoo, a revision to the old 'event overview' here for approval please:
Summer 1944
Having taken a pounding in the battles around Caen and the D-Day Beachheads, mixed elements of SS Panzer and Heer troops are taking a well earned weekend rest to refit and re-arm in the Cherbourg Peninsula. Hidden away in the woods, they are tasked with some light training and ensuring that the French locals do not cause any trouble. They have a good set up, sleeping in proper tents for the first time in a month, with good food and warms fires, and not under constant threat of attack. For a few days it seems that the fortunes of war have turned in their favour.
Unknown to the Germans, their location has been found by some of the elite Jedburgh teams, who have been living behind the lines since before D-Day. Ruthless, resourceful and able to live of the land for months, these tough troops have no intention of letting the enemy recuperate. Hit and run is their chosen speciality, and it is not long before they can pose a real threat even in small numbers.
CiA would like to announce our 'Operation Jedburgh' event at IED's Glyn Ceriog site (Wrexham) in North Wales.
Date is Saturday 10th and Sunday the 11th July 2010.
Price ΓΒ£40Requirements
Germans 30+ places
You will operate from a fixed base, with tents, warm beds, vehicles, and hot brews a plenty. No sleeping in foxholes for you. The event will run for the full 24 hours, although you will be tasked into squads and rotated to ensure that you all get some good periods of rest. The game will continue until all the evaders are caught, and they have the options of attacking at any point during the period. Therefore the traditional Saturday night piss up is not on the cards, although sitting round some warm camp fires with small schapps may be in order. You will run the risk of attack at all times, you will not be able to drop your guard.
We are going for a more period look than before so you will need a period style tent, either zelts, large canvas or pup (or a mate you can share with). No modern nylon tents at all, and no gas cookers, please bring esbits or spirit cookers or cook on the open fire. Modern sleeping bags, bivy bags are ok as long as they are hidden inside your tent arrangement. CiA has tentage to lend out, please ask if you need it.
Uniform is Feldgrau/HBT, Cammo smocks etc ok. No weapons limitation other than standard CiA rules.Jedburgh Team places - 20 places maximum
You will operate with what you can carry on your back. You will need to be physically fit and competent at navigating around 700 acres. The event is mentally more than physically punishing, do not underestimate this. Your missions will be given to you in the run up, and you not necessarily start in one large group. You will have to live off the land, picking up supplies of extra food and ammunition form caches. With luck you may find some parachute containers with some warm sleeping bags..... if you get caught you could end up sitting in a German prison for a numbers of hours.
Minimum requirements are a compass (modern ok) some form of shelter, zelt or rubberised Brit poncho, and a modern sleeping bag. If you want some kip during the night you will need to construct a shelter.
Uniform can be any Brit or US or Civvy . No weapons limitation other than standard CiA rules.Booking
Booking threads wil open beginning of April 2010. There is no requirement for secret booking and the system will be as normal. This will be more living history, MILSIM, whatever you want to call it, than before. If you want to live in 1944 for a full weekend, at constant threat of being attacked on either side, and feel what it was really like for the men at the time, then this is the one event this year where you will get that opportunity. You will have heart stopping, adrenaline pumping moments as well as mind numbingly boring episodes. You may even not get to fire a shot all weekend. You will be working as a team to collective goals and under military command. You will be tested physically and mentally. War is hard work and serious business. Yet paradoxically, within this pressure, mankind has the ability to find lighter moments, jollity and enjoyment.

And Pete - please post up your excellent scenario outline. Its exactly what was in my mind and I'm sure coincides with everyone else's ideas too.

Made some corrections and amendments. Nothing content-wise, only grammar and clarity.

Don't forget, my scenario was written based on the SAS operation "Loyton", rather than Jedburghs. I did that because the Jed's only operated in 3 man teams, as well as to shake the fear of "escape and evasion" from punters minds. It's basically the same thing though!
Op' Loyton was a disaster for the British, as it was plagued by bad weather, bad intelligence, bad luck and by being dropped onto a refitting German panzer division!
Anyhoo, I've attached my initial proposal outline.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Aye, the title/outline is different, gameplan the same (for our purposes). In practice I'd imagine you would want to be working in three man squads anyway - a group of ten would be spotted a mile off and a lone bod in such a scenario would be a complete H&S nightmare. Three men should be capable of being self-supporting and self-motivating (one person flags, others reassure/encourage). Squads can be amalgamated to larger groups should the task require it.
I have expunged all mention of 'escape and evade' in postings so far, including above text!

The only major difference is that the SAS operated (and still do) in 4 man teams. I thought four, four man teams, plus the HQ element, would make it easier to organise for 20 players than having 3 man teams.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Ah, I see.

I also suggest that having 20 a side, rather than trying to get 30 Germans and 12 Jeds', is more practical, both from a gaming point of view and an organisational point of view.

I'm quite happy with 30+ jerry (should we be able to get that many, the Danish crowd seem keen to come) - Guy, Jay and I have plenty for them to do (and it won't be swamping the area to make life difficult for you!). Much as at Ariel we will keep them focussed, occupied and disciplined.
And the problem with 12 Jeds is i) you have a feckload of stuff to do and area to cover and it might be a better plan to ease the burden (it would be a complete cockup if they can't get through Sunday) and ii) it will be instantly booked (as last time) with not necessarily the optimum players. To pick two - Webby and Andy who were Jeds last time arn't at all 'ideal' players for the role, Andy never having done anything like this physically and Webby who will spend Sunday asleep!

Andy never having done anything like this physically and Webby who will spend Sunday asleep!
Or off on his own trying to get a single knife kill so he can boast on the forum.

The Jeds really do need to be seriously outnumbered. The whole concept is Allied troops, deep within enemy territory relying on stealth and sheer balls to complete their missions against a vastly numerically superior foe.
It should not become a stand-up fight between the two sides.
my 2p on the subject.
